WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Jimmy Archer blocked the plate, saving a run!
Bot 5th: Eddie Collins robbed Vin Campbell of a base hit.

Otto Hess completed the game without help from the bullpen and third baseman
Red Smith had 3 base hits as the Detroit Tigers staged a dramatic comeback
over the Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 3 to 2 at Navin Field.

Detroit erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
plating 2 runs on 4 base hits. Smith started the inning off right when he
ripped a base-knock. Jimmy Archer stepped into the batter's box and he laid
down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Bobby Veach then singled. Ray Chapman
was up next and he lined a single resulting in a run. Zack Wheat came up to
bat and slapped a one-base hit making Detroit the victors to the delight of
the home town faithful. Detroit had a total of 9 hits for the game.

Hess(6-11) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Christy
Mathewson(13-8) absorbed the loss. Jim Murphy was in great spirits in his
post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling
comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my
counterpart, Jeff Pasley, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's
terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
