WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Jimmy Austin robbed Red Downs of a base hit.

Third baseman Bobby Byrne rocketed 2 homeruns and had 7 RBI and Eddie Plank
took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the St. Louis-AL Browns were badly
beaten by the Chicago-NL Cubs, 21 to 4.

Byrne was a one-man wrecking crew. He smashed a two-run homer in the 3rd
inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 5th inning and ripped a
base-knock which plated a run in the 8th inning. Chicago-NL lit up the
scoreboard in the 6th inning which saw them score 8 runs on 5 hits and the
8th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits. Chicago-NL had many opportunities
throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.

Plank(11-13) got the win allowing 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. The
left-handed Plank had his no-hit bid broken up by Stuffy McInnis who singled
with one out in the 6th inning. Byron Houck earned the save, his 10th. Ed
Reulbach(9-3) was tagged with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 5
innings and not allowing an earned run.

'I had good swings today,' Byrne said, 'Everything felt right'.
