Murry Dickson delivered 10 solid innings at Griffith Stadium as the Washington
Nationals beat the New York-AL Yankees in 10 innings 3 to 2.
The score was tied at 2 after nine. Washington came out the victor in the
10th inning. After an out was recorded, Gus Bell delivered a base-hit. Andy
Pafko next to the plate and he doubled. Roy Campanella then lashed a single
giving Washington the win as 4,872 happy fans joyfully celebrated.
Washington managed 11 hits in their victory.
The victory went to Dickson(8-6) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Hal
White(1-5) ended up with the loss in relief.
Robert Baker lamented, 'Dickson was really aggressive today. He kept coming
after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one after
another - like so many bowling pins!'
