WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Bill Dahlen robbed Davy Jones of a base hit.

Rube Ward had 2 base hits and Frank Kitson completed the game without help
from the bullpen as the strong Brooklyn Superbas came back to win one over
Chicago Orphans, 4 to 3.

Brooklyn came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs on 4
base hits. Ward led off the inning for Brooklyn when he ripped a single.
Tom McCreery stepped up to the plate and he stroked a single. Charlie Irwin
then lashed a single, and an error was also committed, resulting in a run.
Tim Flood came up and he stroked a base-hit making Brooklyn the winners and
sending the 4,294 fans home happy. Brooklyn and Chicago each finished the
afternoon with 11 hits.

The winning pitcher was Kitson(18-5) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Jock
Menefee(7-10) was tagged with the loss. He was unable to control the
Brooklyn offense and allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

Kitson and Ward were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great
come from behind victory. As Ned Hanlon noted, 'A win like this one can do
wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the
players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
