Pittsburgh Pirates in 18 innings 10 to 9 at Wrigely Field.
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Chicago-NL won the
game in the 18th inning. Carl Furillo kicked off the action when he drew a
walk. Duke Snider next to the plate and he drew a walk. Gene Woodling then
laced a base-hit to load the bases. Joe Astroth followed next and he laced a
single plating two runs. Ferris Fain came up to bat and drew a walk to load
the bases. Pee Wee Reese joined his teammates in the uprising and drew a
walk resulting in a mighty exciting win for Chicago-NL and the 20,008 home
town fans in attendance. It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change
hands 7 times.
