separated the combatants at game's end. The Chicago-NL Cubs won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Chicago-NL won the game with a run in the 8th inning. After two outs Carl
Furillo smashed a solo-shot out of the park. Neither team was able to score
until the 7th inning.
The victory was credited to Bill Tremel(3-1) who went 1/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. Tremel got help from Johnny Sain who earned his 4th save.
Billy Hoeft(1-3) ended up with the loss. He pitched 8 innings and
surrendered just 4 hits and no walks.
