as the Cincinnati Reds really laid it on the Pittsburg Pirates 15 to
4.

Cincinnati had 8 runs cross the plate in the top of the 5th inning when they
had 4 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Farmer Vaughn who
deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he banged out a single bringing
in two baserunners. Cincinnati kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning
when they had 8 runs on 4 hits. Cincinnati kept the pressure on throughout
the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

The victory went to Chamberlain(20-14) who went the distance allowing 4 runs.
Billy Gumbert(4-2) was given the loss. He couldn't find the plate, issuing
12 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.
