Silver King completed the game without help from the bullpen and Bug Holliday
had 2 base hits at South Side Park as the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago
Colts in 10 innings 9 to 7.
The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings. Cincinnati came out the
victor in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jack McCarthy got
things rolling when he drew a walk. Arlie Latham next to the plate and he
drew a walk. Bid McPhee then drew a walk to load the bases. Holliday
followed next and he drew a walk scoring a run. Farmer Vaughn came up to bat
and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. The score went
back-and-forth with the lead changing 6 times.
King(12-6), allowing 7 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Willie
McGill(10-17) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 9 hits and 8 walks in 9 and
1/3 innings.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Charlie Comiskey said after the game. 'King did not have
command of his pitches most of the afternoon, but he proved he really knew
how to pitch!'
