Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Vern Stephens started the attack as he laced a base-knock. After another out, Joe Dimaggio came to bat and hit a single. Mize then doubled driving in two more baserunners. Both teams totaled 15 hits on the afternoon. 'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Scheib said. 'The bottom line is I didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
