Whitey Lockman had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Larry Jansen had a complete game
as the Chicago-NL Cubs defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 4 to 1
at Griffith Stadium.

Chicago-NL jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring 2 runners
on 2 hits.  That was all Jansen(11-11) needed.  After the 4th inning, neither
team was able to score.  

The losing pitcher was Don Newcombe(7-13).  He surrendered 9 hits and 7 walks
