Billy Pierce(11-7) was on top of his game in Philadelphia-AL as he tossed a
beauty of a no-hitter against the Philadelphia-AL Athletics. The Pittsburgh
Pirates won by a score of 3 to 0.
Pierce had an afternoon to remember. He only walked one Philadelphia-AL
batter. What a day for the fans. They were on the edge of their seats from
the 7th inning on. With every out, the electricity in the air mounted.
Pittsburgh had 8 hits for the afternoon.
Vern Bickford(6-10) was tagged with the loss. 'I gave it everything I had.
It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Pierce said. 'I was out there
focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching
my game.'
