Virgil Trucks cleared three ducks from a very crowded pond with a grand slam
as the New York-AL Yankees smashed the overmatched Washington Nationals, 14
to 3.
Trucks enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He ripped a base-hit knocking in a
run in the 2nd inning, launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand
Slam homerun in the 6th inning and lashed a single in the 7th inning. New
York-AL lit up the scoreboard in the 6th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits and the
8th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits. New York-AL ended up with
21 hits for the game while Washington had 7.
Trucks(9-15) allowed 3 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Johnny
Podres(3-5) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 17 hits and
3 walks in 7 innings.
