WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Red Schoendienst robbed Duke Snider of a base hit.

Carl Furillo lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 5 RBI at Wrigely Field
as the amazing Chicago-NL Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9 to 7.

Furillo provided much of the offense. He doubled with all three runners
coming home in the 3rd inning and bombed a two-run dinger in the 5th inning.
Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The victory was credited to Chuck Stobbs(11-2) who went 6 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 6 runs. Stobbs got relief help from Joe Dobson who gained credit for
his 6th save. Early Wynn(12-8) was given the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 6
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Andy Spector was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
