Don Newcombe completed the game without help from the bullpen and he went yard
and had 3 RBI as the sizzling Washington Nationals defeated the New York-AL
Yankees by the score of 10 to 1 at Griffith Stadium.

Washington jumped on top of New York-AL in the bottom of the 3rd inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  Hal Naragon kicked off the action when
he tripled.  Newcombe came to the plate and hit a deep fly scoring a run.
Johnny Temple then drew a walk.  Harvey Kuenn followed and he stroked a
base-hit.  Rip Repulski stepped into the box and would ground out scoring the
final run of the inning.  That was all the offense they were to need.
Washington managed 16 hits in their victory.  

Newcombe(11-8) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Jim
Wilson(7-12) was given the loss.  He gave up 10 runs in 8 innings of work.

In another of a string of victories, Washington extended their winning streak
to 7 games.
