WEB GEMS- Top 1st: John Titus robbed Jimmy Sheckard of an extra base hit.

With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, impressive Philadelphia-NL
Phillies came from behind to top lifeless Boston-AL Red Sox, 3 to
2.

Philadelphia-NL had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Nap Lajoie keyed
the rally when he doubled. Heinie Heitmuller followed next and he reached on
an error. Bill Carrigan then would hit into a force play bringing in a run.
Hal Chase followed and he drew a walk. Joe Tinker came up to bat and laced a
base-knock resulting in an exciting win for Philadelphia-NL and a raucous
post-game celebration by the home town fans. Both teams totaled 7 hits on
the afternoon.

Babe Adams(9-3) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Rube Waddell(9-7)
was charged with the loss. Mark McGonigle was in great spirits in his
post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling
comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my
counterpart, Dale Van Leven, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's
terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'
