Lefty Leifield completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
dominant Philadelphia-AL Athletics won a dandy at Shibe Park over the
Boston-AL Red Sox, 3 to 2.

The game was won by Philadelphia-AL with a run in the 9th inning. Fred Merkle
laced a single, and an error was also committed. After an out was recorded,
Ira Thomas came to the plate and ripped a base-knock resulting in an exciting
win for Philadelphia-AL and a wild post-game celebration by the home town
fans. Philadelphia-AL had just 6 hits for the afternoon.

Leifield(20-10) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Bill
Donovan(5-3) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 8 and 1/3 innings and
surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks.

The Philadelphia-AL ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 82-48.
Boston-AL will hope that this loss is only a 'blip' on their recent 8-2 run -
and not a start of a new trend.
