run separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston-AL Red Sox won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Boston-AL came up with all the runs they needed in the 3rd inning as they
scored 3 runs on 5 base hits. That early run support was all that Earl
Yingling(5-2) required. Washington made it exciting in the 9th, but they
were unable to push the needed runs across.
Hippo Vaughn was credited with his 5th save. The loss was charged to Smoky
Joe Wood(19-10). He surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.
