Robin Roberts allowed Ron Mead to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the spectacular Chicago-NL Cubs won a heart-stopping victory over the
Cincinnati Reds, 5 to 4.

Chicago-NL scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  Bobby Avila laced a
single.  Roberts stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.  Jackie Robinson
dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Cal Abrams was up next and
he reached on an error giving Chicago-NL the win as 35,117 happy fans
joyfully celebrated.  Despite losing, Cincinnati out-hit Chicago-NL 10 to 6.

Roberts(18-6) allowed 4 runs on the game. Willard Schmidt(12-3) took the loss
in relief.  He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in
his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.  

The winning ways continue for Chicago-NL. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days.  With the loss Cincinnati now has a record of 65-45.
