John Clarkson completed the game without help from the bullpen and Fred
Pfeffer went deep and had 4 RBI as the Chicago White Stockings really laid it
on the Detroit Wolverines 16 to 6.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Pfeffer. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd
inning and tripled plating two runs in the 4th inning. Chicago lit up the
scoreboard in the 6th inning with 7 runs on 3 hits. Despite scoring in 5
separate innings, Detroit could not get the win.
The win went to Clarkson(26-11) who allowed 6 runs in the game. Henry
Gruber(3-1) was given the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 15 hits and
4 walks in 8 innings.
