WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Harry Bay robbed Jake Beckley of a Homerun!
Top 4th: Ed Phelps blocked the plate, saving a run!

Roy Patterson allowed Andy Spector to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and catcher Ed Phelps had 2 base hits as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics
defeated the St. Louis-NL Cardinals by a score of 3 to 2 at Columbia
Park.

Philadelphia-AL jumped on top to stay in the 7th inning scoring one runner.
St. Louis-NL threatened in the 9th but Philadelphia-AL was able to put down
the rally.

Patterson(10-15), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Casey
Patten(9-10) was given the loss in relief. He was pinned with the loss
despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings of work.

Scot Jackson was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really
hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is
easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely
get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
