The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the New York
Yankees staged a comeback win over the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 4
to 3.

New York scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs using 2
hits.  After an out was recorded, Frankie Gustine kicked off the action when
he stroked a base-hit.  Bud Stewart stepped up to the plate and he cleared
the fences for a two-run home run giving New York the win and sending the
home town fans into a frenzy.  New York managed 12 hits in their victory.

Vern Bickford(5-4) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Vic
Lombardi(1-5) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings
and surrendered 4 hits and no walks.

Wayne Wilson was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that.  Our guys just weren't going to be denied.  And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this
afternoon!'
