18,122 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The St. Louis Cardinals won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Boston fell behind quickly as the St. Louis offense came through in the first
inning as they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits. The key at-bat was by Carl
Furillo who silenced the stadium when he lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run. Boston tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

The victory went to Vic Raschi(16-5) who went 8 innings, allowing 3 runs.
Raschi got relief help from Ray Scarborough who gained credit for his 1st
save. Hank Borowy(4-10) suffered the loss.

'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Allan Kaufman
said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have
to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'
