Frank Bates had a complete game as the Cleveland Spiders defeated the Brooklyn
Superbas 3 to 1 at Washington Park.

Cleveland came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs.  After
an out was recorded, Sport McAllister began the rally when he reached on an
error.  Harry Lochhead stepped into the batter's box and he doubled.  Tommy
Tucker then hit a deep fly which brought home a run.  Joe Sugden followed
next and he reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning.  Neither
team was able to score until the 7th inning.  

Bates(3-14), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Jim
Hughes(11-9) was hit with the loss.  'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take
the win' Bates said.
