Harry Howell delivered 9 solid innings and second baseman Bill Sweeney had 3
base hits and 2 RBI as the St. Louis-AL Browns bested the Philadelphia-AL

Howell(6-10) was tremendous on the mound for St. Louis-AL. He was stingy on
the mound, allowing just 5 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to
3.25. St. Louis-AL managed 14 hits in their victory.
Cy Young(15-11) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and no walks
in 7 innings. 'Howell pitched a gem of a game', Andy Spector recounted. 'He
kept our batters off balance the entire game.'
