WEB GEMS- Bot 9th: Bill Sweeney robbed Bob Coulson of a base hit.

Shortstop Jack Barry had 5 hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis-AL Browns staged a
dramatic comeback over the Washington Nationals by a score of 10 to 8 at
American League Park.

St. Louis-AL scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs on 3
base hits. Stuffy McInnis opened up the inning nicely when he reached on an
error. After an out was recorded, Barry stepped in and he hit a single.
Jimmy Austin then drew a walk to load the bases. Larry McLean followed, but
he was set down on strikes. Fred Blanding came up to bat and banged out a
single plating two runs. Dode Paskert continued the rally and delivered a
one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. St. Louis-AL had 16 hits
for the afternoon.

Blanding(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Gene Krapp(5-6) was the loser in relief. He was a
hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 innings of work.

Tim Singer was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at
bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'
