Second baseman Red Schoendienst had 4 hits and 3 RBI at Fenway Park where the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Boston-AL Red Sox by the score of 9 to
6.

Pittsburgh tallied 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning when they came up with
4 base hits.  Hoot Evers led off and started the attack as he was hit by a
pitch.  Bobby Thomson was the next batter, but he struck out.  Billy Pierce
then ripped a base-hit.  Dale Mitchell stepped in and he delivered a single
resulting in a run.  Schoendienst came up to bat and doubled which was good
for two more runs.  For the game Pittsburgh out-hit Boston-AL 19 to 8.

Pierce(6-13) went 6 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Bubba Church recorded
the save, his 15th.  Max Lanier(5-10) was the loser.  He was hit hard and
gave up 13 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
