Washington scored 3 runs in the decisive 3rd inning. Johnny Pesky started the inning off right when he drew a walk. Bobby Young came to the plate and drew a walk. Duane Pillette followed, but he was set down on strikes. Bobby Adams stepped in and he ripped a one-base hit scoring a single run. Joe Adcock stepped into the box and would ground out bringing home one more runner. Joe Garagiola extended the rally and drew a walk. Luke Easter followed next and he hit a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. That early scoring held up. Both teams totaled 8 hits on the afternoon. Pillette(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 2/3 innings and allowing 2 runs. Pillette got help from Harry Byrd who earned his 14th save. Jim Hearn(7-6) was the loser. Wth the win Washington now has a record of 43-65. With the loss, the Cincinnati ballclub's record is 59-49.
