The Boston Red Stockings nipped the Louisville Grays in 11 innings 8 to 7 at
South End Grounds in a hard fought contest.
The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Boston won the hard
fought contest in the 11th inning. Tim Murnane lined a single. Jim Devlin
then picked Murnane off first base. Ezra Sutton then ripped a base-knock,
and an error was also committed. Devlin then uncorked a wild pitch. Will
White came up to bat and singled giving Boston the win as 6,330 happy fans
joyfully celebrated. Boston totaled 18 hits on the afternoon.
The win was credited to White(2-0) who went 2 innings allowing 1 run.
Devlin(24-17) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 10 and 1/3 innings giving
up 18 hits and no walks.
