Christy Mathewson tossed a complete game as the New York Giants defeated the
struggling St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 6 to 2 at Robison Field.

New York took the lead for keeps in the 7th inning plating 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. Al Bridwell opened up the inning nicely when he doubled.
Mathewson came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Fred Tenney then
would hit into a fielders choice plating a run. After another out, Roger
Bresnahan came to the plate and doubled scoring the final run of the inning.
New York had a total of 11 hits for the game.

The victory was credited to Mathewson(22-5) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Slim Sallee(2-9) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 11 hits and 5 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings.

The winning ways continue for New York. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. John McCloskey was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really
been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last week or two.
That won't get it done.'
