Jack Powell threw a 11 hit shutout as the St. Louis Browns beat the Cleveland
Naps in 17 innings by a score of 1 to 0.
The run-column was full of goose eggs at the end of nine full innings.
Finally, St. Louis prevailed in the 17th inning. Roy Hartzell laced a
one-base hit. After an out was recorded, McAleese took second on a stolen
base. After another out, Bobby Wallace then delivered a single, and an error
was also committed, scoring the run. St. Louis took care of Cleveland with
no trouble in the bottom of the 17th.
It was the 3rd shutout of the year for Powell(8-10). Addie Joss(12-11)
suffered the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned
run in his 17 innings of work.
