Doc Ayers retired 12 batters on strikeouts as the Washington Nationals bested
the New York Yankees in 11 innings 2 to 1 at Polo Grounds.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Washington came out
the victor in the 11th inning.  Eddie Foster stroked a base-hit.  After an
out was recorded, Chick Gandil came to the plate and ripped a one-base hit.
Ray Morgan then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run.  Washington managed only
6 hits on the afternoon.  

Jack Bentley(6-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Jack Warhop(11-4) took the loss.  He pitched 11 innings and surrendered just
6 hits and 3 walks.
