John Clarkson went the distance and center fielder Dick Johnston hit a homerun
and had 2 RBI as the Boston Beaneaters defeated the Chicago White Stockings
in 10 innings 8 to 7 at South End Grounds.

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings.  Boston won the game in the
10th inning.  John Morrill kicked off the action when he reached on an error.
Mike Hines came next and he drew a walk.  Sam Wise then drew a walk to load
the bases.  Pop Tate followed and he reached on an error resulting in a run.
Johnston came to the plate and reached on an error resulting in an exciting
win for Boston and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.  The
game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times.

Clarkson(17-18) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 7 runs. Mark
Baldwin(7-16) absorbed the loss.  He surrendered 11 hits and 4 walks in 9
innings.
