In a good matchup it was the Brooklyn Superbas 5, the Cleveland Spiders 2 at Washington Park. Brooklyn wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 2 runs using 3 hits. After two were out Hughie Jennings started the rally when he stroked a one-base hit. Joe Kelley came next and he ripped a base-hit. Tom Daly then doubled knocking home two runners. Cleveland made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The win went to Doc McJames(14-7) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. McJames was helped out by Joe Yeager who recorded his 2nd save. Frank Bates(3-15) took the loss. He was unable to control the Brooklyn offense and allowed 13 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. 'It was a tough one to lose' said Joe Quinn 'We'll get them next time out.'
