Phil Cavarretta hit one over the fence and had 4 RBI and Don Newcombe went the
distance as the Washington Nationals defeated the Boston-AL Red Sox by the
score of 10 to 3 at Griffith Stadium.

Newcombe(12-7) delivered a fine performance for Washington.  He went 9 innings
allowing 9 hits and 2 walks.  Washington finished with 14 hits in the
victory.  

Fred Hutchinson(7-11) absorbed the loss.  He was touched for 13 hits and 2
walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.  The Washington ballclub's record now stands at
