Ewell Blackwell went 8 solid innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
Washington Nationals by a score of 2 to 1.

Washington was unable to climb back into it after Pittsburgh went ahead for
good in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring a single run utilizing 2 base
hits.  Ellis Kinder was perfect in relief and got the save, his 21st.

Blackwell(11-3) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 8 innings. Don
Newcombe(7-11) was tagged with the loss.  He got hammered, allowing 10 hits
and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.  

With this win, Pittsburgh has a 66-44 record.  They have been 6-4 lately.
With the loss, the Washington ballclub's record is 42-64.
