Al Spalding delivered 9 solid innings and Cal McVey had 5 hits and 6 RBI as
the Cleveland Forest Citys(C) were badly beaten by the incredible Boston Red
Stockings, 26 to 5.
McVey had a big day at the plate. He slapped a one-base hit plating a run in
the 1st inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 3rd inning, smacked a single
scoring two baserunners in the 6th inning, doubled which plated a run in the
8th inning and laced a base-knock scoring a run in the 9th inning. Boston
provided plenty of action in the 1st inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 5
hits and the 3rd inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 6 hits. Boston banged
out 23 hits on the afternoon.
Spalding(30-3), allowing 5 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Al
Pratt(3-9) suffered the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
26 runs in 9 innings.
'I didn't feel that good when I came to the park today,' McVey said. 'I'm
glad I decided to play!'
