WEB GEMS- Top 1st: John Morrill robbed Paul Hines of a base hit.

Hank O'Day had a strong outing at South End Grounds as the Washington
Nationals beat the Boston Beaneaters by the count of 6 to 2.

Washington took the lead off Kid Madden in the first inning as they scored 3
runs on 3 base hits. The early run support proved sufficient for O'Day(6-11)
and Washington. That was all the run support O'Day required. Washington
banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.

Madden(13-10) was charged with the loss. King Kelly was obviously impressed
with the pitching of O'Day, 'That guy made us look a little silly out there
this afternoon. We just couldn't get to him at all - everything was working
for him. I just hope that he got that kinda performance out of his system.'
