WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Lew Richie robbed Doc Marshall of a base hit.

Lew Richie had 2 base hits as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the pitiful St.
Louis Cardinals by a score of 5 to 3 at Baker Bowl.

Philadelphia scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when they had 4
base hits. Ernie Courtney got things going when he doubled. Kitty
Bransfield next to the plate and he delivered a base-hit. Mickey Doolin then
lined a single driving in a run. Doolin got a good lead and stole second.
Fred Jacklitsch was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Richie
extended the rally and reached on an error plating one more runner. Roy
Thomas was next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the
inning. St. Louis had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The win was credited to Richie(6-1) who went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 3
runs. Harry Coveleski earned his 7th save. The losing pitcher was Ed
Karger(12-10). He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
