Eddie Collins had 2 base hits and Tom Hughes had an impressive outing as the
Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the reeling Detroit Tigers 7 to 1 at Bennett
Park.
Detroit was unable to claim the lead after Brooklyn went ahead in the top of
the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs on 2 base hits. Harry Steinfeldt led off and
started the attack as he tripled. John Knight stepped up to the plate and he
would ground out scoring a run. After an out was recorded, Mickey Doolin
then drew a walk. Bill Bergen followed and he doubled driving in another
run. George Bell then threw one that got by the catcher for a passed ball
scoring the final run of the inning. For the game Brooklyn out-hit Detroit
10 to 6.
The win was credited to Hughes(2-1) who went 8 innings allowing 1 run.
Bell(6-13) took the loss. He gave up 7 runs and 9 hits in 8 innings.
