TEAM RISP- Nationals: 3 for 11 Indians: 1 for 10

Johnny Podres allowed Gordy Renaud to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game at Cleveland Stadium as the Washington Nationals staged a comeback win
over the Cleveland Indians by the count of 4 to 2.

Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 3
runs on 3 hits. Roy Sievers led off and keyed the rally when he drew a walk.
After an out was recorded, Hoyt Wilhelm then let one slip out of his hand
for a wild pitch. Gus Bell then singled. Andy Pafko stepped in and he
clubbed a three-run home run. The Cleveland batters didn't put up a fight in
the bottom of the 9th.

Podres(2-4) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Wilhelm(9-5) was
the loser in relief. He allowed Washington 3 runs in 2 innings of work.

Gordy Renaud was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win
it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the
fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of
unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win this afternoon!'
