Second baseman Billy Gardner had 2 base hits at Municipal Stadium as the
Kansas City Athletics won in their last at-bat beating the New York-AL
Yankees by the count of 5 to 4.

The game was won by Kansas City when they scored a run in the bottom of the
9th inning.  Gus Triandos smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' resulting in an
exciting win for Kansas City and a raucous post-game celebration by the home
town fans.  Kansas City won despite being out-hit by New York-AL 13 hits to
9.  

Lew Burdette(5-10) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Jack Meyer(5-7) took the loss in relief.  He served up 3 gopher balls in 2
innings.
