WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Clint Courtney blocked the plate, saving a run!

Right fielder Al Smith had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Johnny Podres completed the
game without help from the bullpen as the Washington Nationals crushed the
Cleveland Indians 16 to 5.

The Cleveland fans didn't appreciate the big day Smith had. He slapped a
base-hit in the 1st inning, blasted a solo shot in the 2nd inning, doubled
plating two runs in the 4th inning and banged out a single in the 6th inning.
Washington bats were very productive in the 1st inning when they had 4 runs
on 4 hits and the 4th inning which saw them score 8 runs on 3 hits.
Washington dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.

Podres(4-6) got the victory, allowing 5 runs for the game. Alex Kellner(4-1)
was the loser. He gave up 6 runs in 3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.34
to 3.58.
