Deacon Phillippe hurled a fine complete game shutout as the Pittsburgh Pirates
destroyed the New York Giants by a score of 14 to 0 at Polo Grounds.

Fred Clarke provided the offensive punch.  He doubled knocking in a run in the
1st inning, doubled plating two runs in the 2nd inning and doubled which
plated a run in the 3rd inning.  Pittsburgh lit up the scoreboard in the 2nd
inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning which saw them score
4 runs on 5 hits.  Pittsburgh managed 21 hits in their victory.  

It was the 4th shutout of the year for Phillippe(20-5). Luther Taylor(7-15)
was the loser.  He was unable to control the Pittsburgh offense and allowed
21 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings.
