In a close game the seemingly unstoppable Detroit Tigers got by the Brooklyn
Dodgers by the score of 4 to 2.

Detroit scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  George Stone opened up the inning nicely when he drew
a walk.  Stone took second on a stolen base.  Frank Chance then laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Harry Niles followed next and he hit a single resulting in a
run.  One out later, Mike Mowrey stepped in and he slapped a one-base hit
scoring the final run of the inning.  The Brooklyn offense proved no trouble
in the bottom of the 9th.  

The winning pitcher was Elmer Steele(3-6) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Bill
Burns earned the save, his 3rd.  Christy Mathewson(21-7) was charged with the
loss.
