Bill Donovan allowed Detroit's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the impressive Detroit Tigers outscored the Boston Red Sox 10 to
1.
Detroit jumped on top to stay in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on 2
hits. After an out was recorded, Tom Jones keyed the rally when he ripped a
one-base hit. Boss Schmidt was next and he stroked a base-hit. Donovan then
reached on an error resulting in a run. Matty McIntyre was up next and he
hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. That was all the offense
they were to need. Detroit managed 13 hits in their victory.
The win went to Donovan(12-2) who allowed 1 run in the game. Charlie
Smith(10-5) took the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 10 runs in 9
innings.
