Right fielder Sid Gordon knocked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the New York-AL
Yankees bested the Philadelphia-AL Athletics 11 to 5 at Shibe Park.

Gordon was unconscious out there. While Philadelphia-AL pitching was serving
softballs up there for him to hit, the Philadelphia-AL fans were serving up
some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as
fuel for the fire. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st inning, smacked a
single which scored a run in the 3rd inning and smacked a three-run homer in
the 4th inning. New York-AL had 16 hits for the afternoon while
Philadelphia-AL had 10.

Robin Roberts(9-9) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Saul
Rogovin(11-5) was the loser. He gave up 6 runs in 3 innings of work. 'Some
days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Gordon said.
'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
