Billy Hoeft had a strong outing as the Philadelphia-AL Athletics beat the
woeful New York-AL Yankees by a score of 8 to 1.

Philadelphia-AL started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their
half of the first scoring one runner.  Philadelphia-AL totaled 10 hits on the
afternoon.  

The winning pitcher was Hoeft(12-5) who allowed 1 run for the game. Gerry
Staley(3-9) was tagged with the loss.  He gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 8
innings.  

'Our guys just weren't seeing the ball today.' Robert Baker said.  'Hoeft
simply dominated us.'
