8,252 fans were treated to a fine game at Bennett Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston Americans won by the
slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Finally, Boston
prevailed in the 11th inning. Buck Freeman led off and started the attack as
he tripled. Hobe Ferris came next and he drew a walk. After an out was
recorded, John Godwin was walked intentionally to load the bases. Kip
Selbach stepped in and he reached on an error bringing in a run. Freddy
Parent came up to bat and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the
inning. Detroit had 9 hits in the game while Boston had 6, but Boston had
the more timely hits.
Jesse Tannehill(15-8) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 10 innings.
George Winter gained credit for his 2nd save. Ed Killian(16-10) was the
losing pitcher.
