Right fielder Joe Dimaggio slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Washington
Nationals won at Griffith Stadium in dramatic fashion over the Cleveland
Indians, the final score, 7 to 5.
Washington came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2
runs on 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Dom Dimaggio started the attack
as he ripped a one-base hit. One out later, Dimaggio stepped in and he
cracked a two-run shot resulting in an exciting win for Washington and a
raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Washington out-hit
Cleveland for the game, 14 hits to 9.
The winning pitcher was Jim Konstanty(2-2) who allowed 1 run in 1/3 of an
inning. The loss was charged to Howie Pollet(14-5) in relief. He allowed 2
