25,006 fans watched an exciting game at Municipal Stadium. The Cleveland
Indians topped the Washington Nationals by the slimmest of margins, 2 to
1.

Both teams had scored 1 runs after nine full innings. Cleveland ended up
winning it in the 10th inning. Willie Jones lined a one-base hit. Gene
Baker came to the plate and laid down a sacrifice bunt. Roy Face then let a
pitch get away from him. Dale Long followed next and he drew a walk. Face
then bounced one in the dirt for a wild pitch giving Cleveland the victory
and sending the 25,006 home-town fans home happy. Washington out-hit
Cleveland 8 to 5, but Cleveland ended up with more runs.

Sandy Consuegra(4-9) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. The
losing pitcher was Face(1-7) in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in
2/3 of an inning.
